As a traditionally male-dominated industry, construction is now attracting more and more women to join the sector.
Blackwell Earthmoving, part of the Hargreaves Group, is extremely proud to have more women joining our workforce and when these women are people like Yasmin Kelly, who has hit the ground running, it’s a true honour to have them as part of the team.

It's never too late to change up your career
Yasmin, who came from a retail, transport and logistics administration background swapped the office life to join Blackwell as a trainee planet operator in 2022. Since that time, Yasmin has progressed through the ranks at Blackwell, now working as a Supervisor at the Lower Thames Crossing project.
“I wanted to change careers because of stability.” said Yasmin. “I saw it as a challenge, especially being an industry that is very male dominated, and I just wanted to rise to that challenge.”
Yasmin has found the team culture at Blackwell to be incredibly supportive, and from day one has felt she made the right decision to swap careers.
“The team here at Blackwell are the best that are out there.” she said. “I’ve had nothing but support, it’s especially nice having more of a female community coming in to the industry, that definitely helps with the support network.
“Since I started in 2022 I was one of the first groups of females to come in and it has risen above and beyond since then. My message to any woman that wants to come in is give it a shot! Put yourself out there, what have you got to lose? It’s a great industry to work in, and once you’re in it, you’re in it for the long run.”
